‘Drawing Families Together – One Meal at A Time’
A new book by author Jill Kimball – co-creator of the Family Table Time system – will guide parents and families toward a stronger understanding of what families can achieve by eating dinner together on a regular basis. As former First Lady Barbara Bush writes in the book’s introduction: “Making the commitment to sit down to dinner as a family on as many nights as possible is one way…to make sure our children realize how much of a priority they are in our lives.”

Mrs. Kimball wrote the book in partnership with her husband, Neal, and with family friends Dr. Stacey Tantleff-Dunn and Dr. Michael E. Dunn, both licensed clinical psychologists and associate professors of psychology at the University of Central Florida. The Dunns specialize in interpersonal communication and relationships, susbstance abuse prevention, eating disorders and body image.
Neal and Jill Kimball created the Family Table Time system in 1999 after realizing that their growing demands on their family were causing family members to drift apartment.
The Family Table Time package centers around a large, specially designed vinyl tablecloth that serves as a focal point for capturing family thoughts, drawings and ideas. The tablecloth is accompanied by a “Get Together” resource guide that instructs families how to use the Family Table Time system, a set of permanent markers, calendar reminder stickers and a “Count Me In” certificate for the entire family to sign.
